biathlon Programs

Combining endurance and fun with marksmanship for all ages and abilities.

Durango Nordic is excited to launch biathlon programming, made possible by generous donations of equipment, coaching expertise, and an LPEA Round Up Foundation grant.

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing with rifle shooting, requiring both physical and mental control. During non-snow seasons, biathlon events combine running or biking with rifle shooting. In all biathlon events, athletes ski, run or bike the race course and stop mid-race at a shooting range, pick up a rifle and take five shots at targets. Missed shots result in penalty laps. If you’ve never shot a rifle before, this is a perfect opportunity to give it a try in a safe, fun and supportive environment. Durango Nordic uses laser rifles and electronic targets.

BIATHLON youth program ADD-ON

  • Youth program opportunity to experience the thrill of precision and endurance! Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and laser target shooting for a unique challenge that tests both speed and focus.

    Key Info:

    • Offered as an add-on to WACOs or Cruisers programs

    • Practice range safety, and marksmanship

    • Open to returning and new skiers looking for something different

  • Wednesdays 4:00-6:00pm

    You must be enrolled in youth programs to add-on a biathlon day.

adult program: summer biathlon/roller ski clinic

  • Biathlon is a growing sport across the United States, combining skiing laps separated by rounds of target shooting. Practices will be a mix of skate roller skiing, shooting, and combination drills, with short practice races at the end.  All shooting will be done with Durango Nordic’s laser biathlon rifle systems.  

    Key Info:

    • 10-week clinic on Wednesdays from June 10th through August 26th

    • Limited number of roller skis available for rent (you’ll be able to reserve rentals through the clinic registration process via the button below)

    • Participants must provide their own roller skis (if not renting), poles, helmets, and any other protection they would like.

    • Recommended ages 14+

  • Wednesdays 5:30-7pm from June 10th - August 26th

  • 10-week clinic = $300 per individual

    10-week roller ski rental = $100 per pair of roller skis

Durango Nordic is planning summer biathlon events so mark your calendars! We will be hosting two running biathlons at the Nordic Center - Saturday June 20th and Saturday July 18th. We are also partnering with Durango DEVO to host a mountain bike biathlon on Saturday August 15th at Animas High School and the Fort Lewis College Factory Trails.
