Our mission is to make skiing accessible to all ages and abilities, from first-timers to competitive racers.

Where is the Durango Nordic Center located?

We’re located across from Purgatory Resort, just a short drive from downtown Durango.

Durango Nordic Center
49786 Hwy 550 N
Durango, CO 81301

Do I need to be an experienced skier to participate?

Not at all! We welcome everyone, whether it’s your first time on skis or you’ve been skiing for years. We offer rentals, lessons, day passes, and programs designed for every age and skill level.

Can I bring my pet to the Durango Nordic Center?

We love our four-legged friends, but to keep the trails safe and enjoyable for everyone, the Durango Nordic Center is a pet-free zone. Thank you for helping us maintain a peaceful on-snow experience for all skiers.

Programs & Registration

What youth programs do you offer, and how do I choose the right one for my child?

We offer a range of programs for kids ages 5 through high school. Programs include both classic and skate skiing, with options that focus on fun, fitness, adventure, or racing. Our programs page can help you pick the right one, and you can always email us at info@durangonordic.org for guidance.

At what age can kids start skiing with DNSC?

Kids can start as early as age 5 in our Snowburners program. From there, they can move into programs like Nordies, Cruisers, W.A.C.O., or the Race Team as they grow and develop their skills.

How do I register for programs?

Registration is quick and easy online. Just visit our youth or adult program pages to sign up for the program that best fits your age and interests.

What equipment does my child need? Do you offer rentals?

We only offer rentals for our Snowburners youth program! All other youth programs will have to bring their own gear. Our partner, Pine Needle Mountaineering, on Main Street offers rentals for those who don’t own their own gear. We’ll also send out details before the season starts about clothing layers, snacks, and other items to help your child stay warm, dry, and happy on the trails.

Are there scholarships or financial aid options?

Absolutely. We never want cost to be a barrier to participation. Scholarships are available for our youth programs—just email info@durangonordic.org to learn more and apply.

Events & Racing

What events does DNSC host each season?

Each winter, we host a variety of community events-races, demo days, guided full moon skis, and family-friendly gatherings. You can check our events page to see what’s coming up.

Can non-members participate in races or events?

Yes! Many of our events are open to everyone. Just head to the [events page] and register for the activity you’re interested in.

What are Junior National Qualifiers (JNQ), and who can compete?

Junior National Qualifiers are high-level races for middle school and high school athletes who want to test themselves against some of the best skiers in the region. They’re a great opportunity for young skiers to experience a bigger racing environment—even if they’re not aiming to qualify for Nationals.

How can I volunteer at races and events?

We love volunteers—it’s how our events run smoothly! Fill out our [volunteer form] and we’ll match you with opportunities that fit your interests, whether that’s helping at the start line, serving hot cocoa, or setting up the course.

Membership & Passes

Does my child need a Nordic Center season pass to participate in DNSC programs?

Nope! Season passes for kids are included in the cost of youth programs.

What are the benefits of becoming a DNSC member?

A season pass or membership gives you access to our trails 7 days a week throughout the winter season. Membership also helps support grooming, trail maintenance, and the youth programs that make our club thrive.

Fundraising & Support

How does DNSC raise funds?

As a nonprofit, we rely on a mix of private donations, sponsorships, grants, and community fundraising events to support our programs and operations.

Where do donations go?

Donations directly support trail grooming, youth programs, scholarships, staff wages, and equipment maintenance. Every contribution helps keep skiing accessible and our trails in great shape.

How can I support DNSC beyond skiing (sponsorships, volunteering, fundraising events)?

There are lots of ways to get involved! You can become an event sponsor, volunteer at races, join our fundraising events, or simply make a donation. Email info@durangonordic.org if you’d like to connect about opportunities.

Is DNSC a nonprofit? Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes! DNSC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all donations are tax-deductible.

We ski in most conditions, but if weather makes it unsafe, we’ll cancel or adjust practice. Safety is always our top priority.

How will I know if practice is canceled?

We’ll send an email and/or text to families if practice is canceled. You can also always check your email before heading out if the weather looks questionable.

Where do practices take place?

Most practices are held at the Durango Nordic Center. Occasionally, we’ll meet at other locations—if that’s the case, we’ll let you know ahead of time.

Is transportation provided for races or training trips?

Yes, we have a van that we use for certain events and practices. If you’re interested in having your child ride, let us know and we’ll share the details.
