Southwest Nordic Race Series
Four events in the San Juan Mountain region to crown the King and Queen of Nordic Skiing in the Southwest!
Three of the four featured races are scored for each racer. Score is based on finishing position (1st place = 1 point, 2nd place = 2 points, etc.). Top three finishes are averaged. Lowest average score wins!
Prizes will be given for overall race series winners for both male and female divisions to include 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Prizes will be presented at the final race of the series: The Pine Needle Langlauf. More information about prize specifics coming soon!
Race #1 - Pagosa Springs Fall Creek Double SKiathlon
Date: January 7, 2018
Location: Fall Creek, Pagosa Springs, CO
Fall Creek is located 2 miles east of the scenic overlook hairpin curve on Wolf Creek Pass. Look for Forest Service Road sign #39, approximately 25 minutes east of Pagosa Springs on Hwy 160.
Distance: 5.5K Classic + 5.5K Freestyle
Competitive Skiatlon racers will mass start the classic ski and finish at the top. Participants will then ski down as spectators, yielding and/or stopping for racers, and of course cheering on racers! Once at the bottom, racers change into their skate gear, and head back to starting line, then skate to the top to finish. Best combined time wins. 1,200 feet total elevation gain (600 per each ski leg).
Entry Fee: $25 Solo + $5 for race series
