The Masters Program is for adult Nordic skiers of all abilities. Two programs will be offered in the 2019 - 2020 Ski Season based on ability level and desired focus. Both programs are designed to improve physical fitness and technique, connect participants with a like group of fellow skiing enthusiasts, and prepare athletes to compete in a marathon ski race if that is your desire.
Beginner / Intermediate - This is a technique focused program with an emphasis on getting you confident on skis and skiing more efficiently. If you are brand new or recently new to Nordic skiing, this is the program for you.
Intermediate / Advanced - While still a technique focused program, the emphasis is taking your skiing to the next level. By the end of this program, you will be skiing longer distances with more efficiency and speed. This is not a learn to ski program and you will be working with expert coaches who will help you achieve racing goals this season.
Participants will attend one practice a week (day and time is TBD) with a highly qualified coach who will provide focused technique instruction in both classic and freestyle disciplines. Session intensity will vary depending on the skills being covered, but the training intensity will be ability appropriate (new skiers will not be doing intervals).
Participants, especially in the Intermediate / Advanced program, who wish to target race performance improvement will be provided with a ten-week training plan leading up to the Pine Needle Langlauf. The training plan will be written with the 30k skate Langlauf in mind, however, don't let that intimidate you - the Langlauf offers something for everyone - from 2k to 30k - with team or individual options. The training plan will also be suitable for those planning to participate in the entire Southwest Nordic Race Series. As an added bonus, participants will receive high end wax support at the Pine Needle Langlauf from Durango Nordic Ski Club's Head Coach.
Masters Program participants receive a season pass to the Durango Nordic Center included as part of program registration fees. Sign up below!
