Training For Wednesday 12/26/18 - Race Team and Cruisers - Skiing at La Plata Canyon

Merry Christmas Durango Nordic,

We had a great day yesterday skiing on Molas Pass and it was awesome to really get into a winter wonderland before Christmas. Unfortunately this Christmas snow storm is taking it’s time to get to Durango and the Nordic Center and I are really hoping enough snow falls tonight and tomorrow so we can ski at the center on Thursday.

Tomorrow we will Classic Ski due to the chance of skiing in fresh snow.

Distance Ski in La Plata Canyon

The training for tomorrow will be a distance Classic ski in La Plata Canyon.

Again, No Team Van Tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the team van was too heavy to be lifted to get the maintenance work done at the original shop and has a new appointment tomorrow morning. I am asking for some support from parents, if available, to help carpool some athletes. I will be driving my truck to transport gear, which will hopefully open up any extra seats for carpooling in parent cars.

Please let me know if you are available to help provide carpooling for athletes or need help finding an open seat. We will be meeting at the Rec Center at 9:00am to organize carpooling and caravan up to La Plata Canyon for skiing.

The Power of Goal Setting

The Power of Goal Setting

Durango Nordic athletes spent New Year's Eve skiing as far as they could within a three hour span in order to raise funds for the team.  Many discovered trails they had never been on before and several skiers more than met their distance goals.  Watching our athletes not only rise to the challenge, but also have a ton of fun while doing it got me thinking about how powerful having a good goal can be...

New Year's Eve Ski-a-thon Fundraiser

New Year's Eve Ski-a-thon Fundraiser

The nordic ski team will be closing out the year with our one and only fundraiser where funds go directly to DNSC. We will not be asking parents and athletes to do the Red Ball Express event this year. So, this is your chance to help raise money to support the club, our coaches and capital needs. We would love to see a minimum of $20 per athlete raised and 100% participation. Of course, there is not limit to how much we'd like to raise. There will be lots of food, hot drinks and camaraderie. There will be prizes for most raised and furthest skied and there will be something special for all that participate and achieve their goal.

News from the Board

News from the Board

Welcome to Durango Nordic's new and improved website! We hope you like it. Getting a new website was identified as a priority this year for the Durango Nordic Ski Club for many reasons. With mobile devices and new web technology, we needed to keep up with these changes as much as anything. Also, we wanted to feature the beauty and activities at the Nordic Center for potential visitors and the local community. Nordic Club families all know how fortunate we are to have this resource; sharing it with potential visits is critical as they provide much needed revenue to support operations. Please check out the calendar of events for new and ongoing events. New events include the Alpine Bank Howler, a full moon bonfire and schmorgesborg at the Nordic Center in February and March, and the McDonald's Twilight Nights, a short track race series for nordic skiers, fat bikers and snowshoers at the base of Purgatory on Wednesday nights in January.
