Whether you want to test your endurance with the traditional Langlauf 30k, try skijoring with your dog, or relax with some yoga and soaking in natural hot springs, the Pine Needle Langlauf Weekend offers something for everyone.

Friday, February 22

5pm - 8pm | Packet Pick-Up & Skis Drop Off for Waxing | Pine Needle Mountaineering

Ski Wax Service - $25

Want to have a professional wax technician make sure your skis are race ready for the big day?  Drop your skis off at Pine Needle Mountaineering during packet pick up from 5-8pm on Friday, February 16 and Evan Elliott will provide a base layer wax job with a topcoat of the high flourocarbon wax of the day. Pick up your skis at the Nordic Center on Saturday morning. To make a reservation, email paige@durangonordic.org.

Evan is the head coach of Durango Nordic and has served as the head glide wax technician for the United States at the U23 World Championships in 2016, as well as multiple national championships.  He is among the top ten wax technicians in the country.

Saturday, February 23

8am - 1pm | Langlauf Ski Marathon & Festival | Durango Nordic Center

The Nordic Center’s toughest endeavor, the Pine Needle Langlauf freestyle event offers big climbs, scenic views, thrilling descents, and an epic after party with friends new and old!

New this year!  The Langlauf is part of the brand new Rossignol Southwest Nordic Race Series, four events in the San Juan Mountain region to crown the King and Queen of Nordic Skiing in the Southwest.  

9am - Langerlauf 50k & Team Event*

*New this season!  Is Lang not long enough?  Only for the super tough, introducing the Langerlauf 50k.  Yep, down and up Boyce Lake and around the North loop (may it live forever) three times! Intrigued but think you might need some moral support?  Build a team of 2-6 people and take it on relay-style on the 7.5k course.

9am - Langlauf 30k 

9:30am - Halftelauf 15k

9:45am - Mittellauf 7.5k 

10am - Kurzlauf 4k

10am - Weniglauf 2k

**Race times will be confirmed at packet pick up.

Online Registration Fees: Youth $15, Adult $35, Team $50 (online registration closes 2/16 at 5:00 PM)

Day of Registration Fees: Youth $20, Adult $40, Team $60

11am Post Race Party | Durango Nordic Center Deck

Reward your accomplishment with live homegrown music from the Six Dollar String Band and a hot meal from a Chili Cook Off between local businesses. Participants include Animas Orthopedics Association, The Soup Palette, Carver Brewing Company, 4Corners Riversports, Crossfit Catacombs, and Durango Nordic.

 

 

3:30pm - 4:30pm | RElaxation Yoga | Yoga Durango, 1140 Main ave

Star the recovery process from the big effort with a relaxing restorative yoga session provided by local yoga instructor Megan Lott.

5:30pm - 8pm | Night Rail Jam | DC Terrain Park, Purgatory Resort  

The biggest rail jam of the season is under the lights in prime time!  Come check out the best talent in the area as they show off their skills in the DC terrain Park.  This is always one of Purgatory’s most popular spectator events of the year.

Sunday, February 18

10am - 11am | Twilight Lake Sprint Showdown | Durango Nordic Center

A test of nerves, Nordic skiers go one on one is a sprint race around Twilight Lake. A time trial kicks it off at 10am to set the bracket(s). From there, let the fun begin. After the Sprint Showdown, relay teams will be put together for one final team event. All ages and abilities welcome.

12pm - 1pm | Dog Skijoring Clinic led by Durango Dog Ranch | Durango Nordic Center

Join Gregg Dubit with Durango Dog Ranch for a dog skijoring clinic with trained dogs and skijoring gear for demo and practice.  You can even bring your own dog, as long as you have a leash.  Skiing proficiency, especially the ability to stop, is key.  No metal edged telemark skis (these can cut the dogs feet); skate or trad-kick and glide Nordic skis only.  Limited to 20 people! First come first served!
