Fort lewis college’s Rocky Mountain Nordic JUNIOR NATIONAL QUALIFYING RACES

The Durango Nordic Ski Club and our title event sponsor, Fort Lewis College, hosted the final Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifying (JNQ) Races of the season on February 16 and 17, 2019 at the Purgatory Resort Nordic Center.  See below for the official results from Saturday and Sunday races.

It took over 60 volunteers and countless hours to put on a great event! Thanks to all of you who dedicated your weekend to supporting these inspiring young athletes and welcoming the larger Nordic Community to our great town of Durango, Colorado!

Schedule of Events

Monday, February 11, 2019

  • 9 p.m. entries due to Mike Elliott with Four Corners Timing. Email or call (970) 769-8655 with questions. All participant skiers MUST be USSA and RMN members.

  • Any entries received after 9 p.m. or are not completely and accurately filled out will be subject to a $10 late fee per athlete per race.

  • ONLINE WAIVERS - complete by 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019.

  • Durango Nordic will be hosting an Awards Dinner at the Fort Lewis College Student Union Ballroom Saturday evening starting at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person and space is limited. There will also be a cash bar for adults. To attend, parents and skiers must register and pre-pay by 9 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2019. Wednesday, February 13, 2019

  • Entry lists for both races will be disbursed.

  • 9 p.m. deadline for ONLINE WAIVERS. No waiver = no race bib.

Thursday, February 14, 2019

  • Saturday’s start lists will be disbursed.

Friday, February 15, 2019

  • 1 p.m. courses open for inspection. Courses close at 4 p.m.

  • Trail fees $5 for racers, coaches, parents, etc. Please pay in the Nordic Center.

  • Trail fees for parents and spectators to ski will be $10 on Saturday and Sunday. Please pay in the Nordic Center.

  • 5 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. registration and payment (checks or cash only).

    • Location: Keller-Williams Realty Building - 700 Main Avenue, Durango (on the corner of 7th Street and Main Avenue). Take the side door on the south entrance of the building that is 10 meters east from Main Ave on 7th Street. Once in the building, go straight down the hallway until you see the stairs going down. Follow the signs to the meeting room.

  • 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Team Captains’ Meeting. Keller-Williams Realty - 700 Main Avenue, Durango (see directions above). All team leaders must have a representative at the Team Captains’ Meeting.

  • Courses will remain open.

  • 7 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Final Registration and Bib Pick-Up at the Purgatory Nordic Center.

  • 8am - Course opens

  • 9am Start. 15 second intervals



  • 9:00am - MU20/MU18 Males 10km

  • 9:40am - FU20/FU18/FU16 Females 5km

  • 10:10am - MU16 Males 5km

  • 10:35am - MU14 Males 3km

  • 9:00am - FU20/FU18 Females 7.5km

  • 9:40am - MU20/MU18 Males 10km

  • 10:30am - FU16 Females 5km

  • 11:00am - MU16 Males 5km

  • 11:25am - FU14 Females 3km

  • 11:35am -  FU12 Females 3km

  • 11:55am - MU14 Males 3km

  • 12:05pm - MU12 Males 3k

  • 1:00pm - Club coaches meet to confirm JN Team

  • Awards: Immediately following the completion of All Classes


  • Food Truck: A food truck will be available each day near the Start/Finish area and the Ski Stadium at Nordic Court.

  • Waiver and Release of Liability: Every competitor and coach must complete the ONLINE WAIVER by 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13.

  • Racing Bibs: Ski Racers will have separate bibs for each race day. A $60 fee will be charged for missing or damaged bibs.

  • Bathrooms: In the Nordic Center and Porta Potties near the Start/Finish area in the Ski Stadium at Nordic Court.

  • Waxing: There will be electricity for waxing near the Start/Finish area in the Ski Stadium. Waxing will be outside. Teams need to supply their own extension cords.

    • RMN Waxing Protocol will be in effect. Pure Fluoro waxes are banned at all RMN JNQ races.

  • Parking: There will be parking attendants helping you. Parking is limited at the Nordic Center. Team vans and trailers will have a designated area for parking at Nordic Court. We will try to accommodate as many cars as possible at the Nordic Center and on Tacoma Drive. Parking maps and parking passes for team vans will be distributed at the Team Captains’ meeting on Friday, February 15, 2019.

  • Entry Fees - Per Race:

    • U16 and Older - $35

    • U14 and U12 - $25

    • U10 and U8 - $10

  • Official Awards Dinner: $15 per person. To attend, parents and skiers must register and pre-pay for the Awards Dinner by 9 p.m. February 11, 2019. Click on the “Register Now!” button in the FLC banner on the side bar to sign up.

  • Payment: Checks payable to DNSC (Durango Nordic Ski Club). Please pay for both races at the Team Captains’ meeting and registration on Friday, February 15, 2019.

  • Late Entries or Changes: $10 fee for any additions or changes after 9 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019. Late entries and changes will be accepted until 6 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019. There will be no race day entries accepted.

  • Seeding for Saturday’s Distance Race: U16 and Older seeding will be done directly off the USSA NRL points list, then the Rocky Mountain Nordic points list, then random draw. U14 and younger seeding off the RMN U14 and younger points list, then random draw. Seed groups of 12 and scrambled within those seed groups.

  • Seeding for Sunday’s Mass Start Race: Same procedure as Saturday for all classes. Best points in all classes will be at the top of the chevron.

  • Technical Delegate: Gary Giberson

  • Chief of Competition: Evan Elliott

  • Timing both days: Four Corners Timing.

Fort Lewis College 

Fort Lewis College (FLC) is partnering with Durango Nordic as the sponsor of our Junior Nationals Qualifier on February 16 - 17. FLC will be generously hosting events at the college for coaches, parents and athletes over the weekend. Additionally, FLC will be at the event supporting its needs and providing information about the college to interested participants.
